A 5/5 rating for this restaurant where the kindness of the hosts, the quality of traditional Japanese dishes, and the atmosphere truly stand out. A great experience - well worth the wait when all seats are taken.
We went to this lovely little restaurant (only has 12 seats, 4 at a table and 8 at the counter). The food and atmosphere were amazing; the husband and wife duo that own and run the restaurant are delightful.
The food was excellent at Gion Danran. The restaurant is run by an older couple who were outstanding hosts for the meal engaging in conversation with us as they also took orders, cooked, and cleaned. The restaurant is small and intimate (a table that seats 4 and a bar that seats about 8) which allows this couple to directly interact with everyone. We ordered yakisoba with shrimp, okonomiyaki with shrimp and cheese, scallops with asparagus, and shrimp in chili sauce. All of these were very flavorful and served hot on the teppan. Go for the food and enjoy the danran "happy family".
Delicious food, cooked and served by a warm coupe that were very attentive and friendly with us. We were the last customers of a long day of work for them and we felt super welcomed and received. Food was amazing! Will definitely go back.
Small and cozy restaurant focusing primarily on okonomiyaki. And they are doing it very well. People were very friendly. Cash only.
A cosy restaurant run by a lovely couple - the meal was prepared by the husband and the wife was the backbone of the operations - taking orders, serving the guests etc. The quirky interiors and delicious food defo make it a worthwhile experience. The meal ended with the owner showing us his Japanese swords and allowing us to take photos. Definitely a memorable dining experience.
The food and drinks were amazing here. We had the pork okonomiyaki and the shrimp yakisoba and they were both so good! It does take a little while to get your food because they're making everything fresh, so be patient. It's well worth the wait. They also require each person to purchase a drink, so I had a lemon distilled spirit and it was also really good. The people next to me had an apple one and they said it was very good, also. I highly recommend this place! To the owners, thank you for the wonderful meal!
The best dinner we had in Kyoto! The chef cooks live and food is amazing! We will come back once in Japan again! Thanks a mill!
